Why I Serve:
Among my happiest childhood memories is visiting the library with my mother, and I’m an avid library user to this day. I honor her memory by serving on the Library Foundation board.
Ilene Denton, a Sarasota resident since 1972, is retired senior editor at Gulf Shore Media, publisher of Sarasota Magazine. Previously, she served as Deputy Director/Marketing and Development at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall (1991-2001), and then Marketing and Visitor Services Director at Selby Gardens (2001-2003). She was on the Hermitage Artist Retreat board for nine years, two of them as president, and is currently on the Tourist Development Council arts grant panel. She and her husband, David, an estate planning attorney in Bradenton, have two grown children, a wonderful daughter-in-law and two perfect grandchildren – readers all.
